Zelliges

Zelliges bring the authentic southern atmosphere of the Maghreb into your interior. They were originally made only with earth from the Moroccan city of Fez. Zelliges, also called Moroccan wall tiles, are handmade glazed tiles of a light, usually white type of clay.

They have an irregular surface and are usually provided with a semi-transparent glaze layer. Because the tiles are handmade, they get a unique character. With zelliges you can not only decorate walls but also floors or furniture.

During the production process, the clay is shaped by hand, provided with a layer of enamel and baked in a traditional wood oven. This ensures the typical, nuanced colour because the temperature in the oven is not the same everywhere. Afterwards, each tile is manually cut into the desired shape.

In modern bathrooms, white and grey zelliges or zelliges in natural colour will look very good. In country bathrooms, rustic colours are recommended, while pastel colours are ideal for retro bathrooms. In addition, zelliges are also available in brighter colours, so that you can work perfectly with colour accents.

Additional info

Installing Zelliges
Installing zelliges requires more attention than traditional wall tiles. Due to the colour nuances, it is important to always mix a few tiles from different boxes when installing. Despite the fact that zelliges are often installed without a joint, we strongly advise against this. A joint ensures that the tension is absorbed and prevents the tiles from cracking.

In addition, it is important that you install the zelliges on a sturdy, load-bearing wall. This wall must be clean, dry and flat. In addition, a Berdy Impregna+ treatment is desirable to facilitate the maintenance of the zelliges.
